This technique was inspired by Ricky Tims’ book Kool Kaleidoscope Quilts, although I quickly changed the process to acquire greater creative control. Double sets of varying-width fabric strips are sewn together, and six pair of mirror-image segments are cut from each double strip-set.

This quilt is my third effort at eliminating everything I found unsatisfactory in the original procedure. Starting from the center, I designed and stitched one segment of the pie-wedge at a time, put all twelve up on the wall in a circle, and decided what to do for the next segment. Truly a design-as-you-go project!
